  1. Pegasys Inc. announced the release date of the new version of TMPGEnc some days ago (in Apr/09/2004).

"Release of our new product; "TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress" expected in... mid May!!! (Upgrade rebate for users who have "TMPGEnc Plus" or "TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator")"

"*In the same time, a one month campaign celebrating this release will also start. During this campaign period, some of our current softwares and bundles will be discounted."

There isn't too much info on the english webpage, but if someone here can read japanese...
BTW, the new version has already been released in japan...

  2. Still seems kind of slow, if you look at the charts they have in the press release. Cinemacraft Basic and MainConcept Encoder, are well over the 1:1 ratio encoding time. MainConcept Encoder gets about 1.5 on my 3.06 HT 533Mhz bus P4 system. Cinemacraft Basic gets over a 2 times ratio. This is only getting 18-20 FPS max, according to this chart.

Still, this is an extreme improvement over the old TMPGEnc.

  3. Yep. I already looked at the charts, and you're right, it seems kinda slow compared to your MainConcept results, but I think (and hope) speed is not the only improvement in this new release .
There might be more options AND better quality (perhaps it can even work with other colourspaces, and not only RGB)
btw, I read (well, looked at ) the japanese webpage and they are offering an AC-3 encoder plug-in for it (like the one for TDA). So it HAS new things other than speed improvements. 8)
