  1. Hello,

I captured a lot of VHS tapes from VCR -> DV Camera -> PC...
But I have very strange problem with last PAL VHS tape:

    - picture is nice on the TV screen when played from VCR
    - picture have a lot of horizontal artifacts when it captured to DV

Could you please check example and help me to find the problem source?

    Thank you in advance,

    Best wishes,
    Sergey

Looks like either an interlace problem or a field order problem. I'm leaning toward an interlace problem because it looks too extreme for a field order issue.

Perhaps the DV camera thinks it's a progressive source and it's really interlaced? Is there a way you can change the setting and try it?

I looks to me more like a bad synchronization problem of the tape.
Most TV sets correct such things so you don't see it there.

What kind of tape is it?, A copied tape?
If possible you could try it on another VCR?
Or else only a TBC would help i think.

  5. Are you by chance using a Canopus ADVC50 or ADVC100 for your DV captures?

Could be an issue related to Macrovision.. Some of the older tapes are sometimes wrongly reported as copy-protected and therefore the capture card scrambles the signal.

On the ADVC50 removing the last jumper is supposed to get rid of the macrovision thingie.

    Cheers
