    The panny model you are talking about has the DV port LOCKED in such a way so that it will only work with a camcorder.

    In short you can't use it with a computer's DV port.

    Sorry if this is bad news but this is something Panasonic did on purpose.

    I think most if not all stand alone DVD recorders are the same.
