  1. Hi all,

I tried to convert on of my of cartoon (duration: 1 hour and half) which was in DivX 3.11Alpha-encoding to PAL VCD,
in order to let my kid view it on TV with a standalone player.

The result was suprisingly good. Until now, I was thinking that quality implied (X)SVCD, but so far I have lots of troubles to find good parameters to get rid of macroblocks while getting 4/3 PAL for TV.

So what's the hype with (X)SVCD? For computer playing, DivX seems the solution, and for standalone, VCD seems just fine.

    Is there anything I missed?

  2. for me also VCD is sufficent quality, there are just those who will always want more and more, and VCD will look like crap for them, this is all in the Eye Of The Beholder.

  3. I don't mind VCD quality. It's comparable to VHS. The nice thing about it is, though my player will play SVCDs, there are MANY that don't. It's convienent to be able to take it to a friends house and be able to play it on their DVD player.
