Bitrate= is a function of size of file and time.

JEEPn: GSpot is on;y for avi files. i need to be able to do this with other files as well like mpeg.

holistic: that doesn't always work. some files such as wmv and mpeg could have the same bitrate but different file size. the calculator doesn't do mpeg or wmv.

does anyone else have any ideas?

Gee, do you think that Bitrate Viewer could help you out here?

Not so. Bitrate is the sampling rate. The time has nothing to do with bitrate. File size is a product of the bitrate and the capture time. It's basic math:
    File size (Megabytes) = (Bitrate (Mb/s) * Time (s))/8
Or ...you can just get the bitrate calculator which figures it out for you witout having to think

  8. right-click on the video as it is playing in PowerDVD (or WinDVD), select properties, and there you have it; a display of the DYNAMIC bitrate.

    Except..File size / Time = Average bitrate

So the average bitrate can be calculated given the file size and running time.

After reading holistic's post a few times and the fact that he linked to the calculator I realized he was talking about deriving bitrate from the other given quantities. Never mind

you're right, sorry. it's the selection in the middle of the list that's displayed when you right-click on the movie. i'm not at my computer now, but the selection is something like...display or information, or something like that. when clicked a display is set on top of the movie that gives details of the video you are watching.

the only things i see when i right click on the video screen in powerdvd are Play, Stop, Pause, Previous, Next, Go To, Forward, Full Screen, Configuration, About & Exit. I went into configuration but that has to do with powerdvd not the video. i don't see what it is that i have to click on

  15. hi, me again,
got home and in PowerDVD while the movie is playing right-click on the movie screen, select SHOW INFORMATION, and a display will overlay the movie to display the info you want. i assume you have version 5...that what i'm using. if you have version 4 there has to be a similar way to display the movie's property. good luck.

Your question was answered. It's not a codec, it's an information appliance. When people help you, do them the courtesy of paying attention.
