I've read some forum messages which show that *faster* CPU's do indeed yield real performance improvements in programs like Premiere. But has anyone measured the benefit of *dual* CPU's? Premiere (and other programs) are multithreaded, but some multithreaded app's I've tested show low-or-zero improvement because something other than the CPU is the limiting factor (memory bus speed, disk subsystem, etc.).

Has anyone actually done an A:B comparison of a single CPU vs. dual CPU system, at a constant clock speed?

(On a dual CPU system running under NT [or 2000/XP], it is possible to tell the operating system to boot using only a single CPU temporarily. That would permit a direct comparison while keeping everything else (memory, disk, etc.) the same. If someone has a dual CPU system and is willing to try this, I'll email them the Microsoft data on how to do it - it's safe and easy.)

    Thanks!

  2. I started a thread a little while ago about this once I got my second CPU. I did the testing first with only one CPU before I had the second installed. Then, I installed it and redid the tests. You can check out the results in that thread. Here is the thread:

Perfect! I'm new to VCDHelp.com and didn't find that thread even though I did try the Search function. Thanks very much for pointing it out - that's exactly the information I was seeking.
