  1. Help!

I have a Pentium dual core CPU E2160 1.8ghz. I even have a Nvidia 9600GT card. I heard this card is able to offload most cpu usage down to 15% while playing h264.

But why... when I tried to play a h264 file my E2160 usage goes up to as high as 80% +

I have K-lite mega codec pack installed. Played my H264 with media player classic.

This is the h264 info from my MPC:
    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 59.94fps [Video]
Audio: AAC 24000Hz stereo 768Kbps [Audio]

Is this the case where 9600gt was not being able to understand Media Player Classic that's why it lends the job to the CPU? What should I do. To upgrade seems ridiculous, seems obviously to me my specs is more than decent!

Because the frame rate is double the normal frame rate and your puny dual core can barely keep up.

It could also be the way the H.264 was encoded. Not all H.264 conforms to DXVA and yet it needs to in order to be properly hardware accelerated upon playback.

Post a MediaInfo "text" output so that we can see all the important properties of the video.

the only way the nVidia cards will perform the HD decoding duties is by using using PowerDVD or by purchasing thier PureVideo decoder.

  5. You need a player that supports DXVA. MPCHC has the option. Go to View -> Options -> Internal Filters and enable "H.264/AVC (DXVA)". Double click on the line and put a checkmark in "Enable DXVA". Close MPCHC and restart it. It should now be using the graphics card (assuming you've installed drivers that support the feature) to decode h.264 video. CPU usage should drop to a few percent.

Very important point. Google NVIDIA Driver for Microsoft Windows XP with CUDA Support (178.08 ) All you need is the driver. The toolkit and SDK are NOT required.

  7. I'm running WHQL certified NVIDIA drivers from several months ago with an 8600 GT. DXVA is working properly.

  8. Works! CPU usage down to freaky 5%.

Using both the NVIDIA driver and MPC Home Cinema suggestion.

    Thanks
