  1. I am having a problem making a 5.1 channel dvd, and finding relevant information on doing so. I use Adobe Audition to make 5.1 surround mixes, then I export them into 6 individual WAV files (FR, FL, C, RS, LS, LFE) I ultimately want to make them into a 5.1 Dolby Digital DVD.

I read that I could use Besweet to create a 5.1 Channel AC3 from my 6 wave files, so i created a list and tried it, but it gave me error messages, like so:

    C:\ac3\BeSweet.exe -core( -input C:\ac3\list.mux -output C:\ac3\music.ac3 -logfilea C:\AC3\BeSweet.log ) -ac3enc( -b 512 -6ch ) -profile( ~~~~~ Default Profile ~~~~~ )

    [00:00:00:000] +------- BeSweet -----
    [00:00:00:000] | Input : C:\ac3\list.mux
    [00:00:00:000] | Output: C:\ac3\music.ac3
    [00:00:00:000] | Floating-Point Process: No
    [00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 48.0KHz

I do have the list.mux file, which contains:

    C:\AC3\FL.WAV
    C:\AC3\C.WAV
    C:\AC3\FR.WAV
    C:\AC3\LS.WAV
    C:\AC3\RS.WAV
    C:\AC3\LFE.WAV

the files exist in the directory also. What could I be doing wrong? I also read that besweet creates bad-sounding ac3s. Can anyone refer a better program to use?

Next, I need to figure out how to burn a resulting 5.1 AC3 (assuming that i can eventually get one) to DVD-format (If I need to create a video stream to play the audio, how would I do that?). The end result I want is the DVD files directory (with the IFO's and VOBs) that I could burn to a VIDEO_TS directory in Nero, so I could play the audio on my DVD Theater System.

Many questions... Any help would be appreciated.

Once you have figured out how to get your AC3 file you need a DVD authoring program. Take a look HERE

  4. I looked at the links, but I dont have the hundreds it costs to purchase ACID pro or its 200 dollar AC3 plugin. Besweet supposedly sucks for ac3 compression, Surcode charges a thousand for it, and I found a program, Maven3d, but you have to buy the expensive ac3 plugin separately. Are there any other programs I am not aware about that encode 5.1 ac3 from wave files and costs preferably under 200?

You *can* use BeSweet (an older version -- newer ones have AC3ENC.DLL support removed) to make a 5.1 AC3 file from your 6 separate wave files.

I've successfully done this several times using the BeSweet GUI to set the parameters. Your Mux file looks virtually the same as mine, although I'm not sure about the exact command line parameters the GUI generated.

Of course, make sure your input files are 48KHz, not 44, and BeSweet is very fussy about directory paths, etc. Still, even if it transcodes the file for you the resultant AC3 file that AC3ENC.DLL produces is not always fully compliant.

  6. What version of Besweet Do you recommend as the best for ac3 encoding? I heard that the ac3 encoder is crappy quality. My input files are all 48khz...
