My Problem:
I recorded an entire outdoor art show using my new dvd camcorder. I got lighting and color saturation at a very acceptable quality, but when I play it back, I found out that due to the positioning of my camcorder (and thus, it's Mic) the most prominent sound is the wind! Its unreasonably loud, and its hard to make out the artists descriptions of their work.
My Need:
I need to remove/reduce the sound of the wind (which is not always at constant levels). An even better alternative would be software that could isolate all human voice sounds. I would also like to use this on other videos, such as my beach videos, to both reduce possible wind noises and wave noises (but not eliminate) so I can hear people and their actions better, or else increase the volume of these other actions in the film.
My Requirements:
I use both Vegas Movie Studio (platinum) and Womble Mpeg Video Wizard for my editing. I need whatever possible software that will do this noise reduction to output it in such a way that I can implant the new audio into one of these video editing tools without major hassle or major quality loss. I would REALLY prefer a free tool (don't have 100 dollars to dish out for the soundforge attachment to Vegas) and a fairly simple straightforward one. I don't need to do major audio editing, just noise reduction (possible audio extration of voices if thats possible) and I don't know much audio termonology, as I work mainly with the video aspects. I am open to the possibility of purchasing audio software, if its cheap and HIGHLY recomended, but really prefer a free option (and any possible links to resources to help me understand the software). Thanks for taking time to read probalby the 10,000th question of this time, it would mean a lot to me and the other art-show attendees to find a good solution.
P.S. I don't mind some quality loss in order to achieve a point where the people are clear and understandable, as long as it removes/diminishes the background (or in this case, where its so loud--foreground) noise.

Very difficult to remove wind and especially water as they tend to cover a wide section of the audio spectrum, so removal often takes out most of the rest of the audio as well.
Have a look at what audio filters Movie Studio ships with as a start. Sony have a couple of very good EQ filters.
The other obvious tool is Audacity, which has many plugins and filters available for it.
I suspect that you have your work cut out for you, even if you could afford better kit.Read my blog here.
