  1. My setup:
    WinXP
    Athlon 800MHz
    256MB ram
    Gefource2 MX200
chaintech Av-511 sound card with C-media 8738 chip.
Kworld Xpert PVR capture card (the new TV878RF-PRO)

I have the audio out on the tuner card going to the line-in on the
soundcard with a 1/8" miniplug to 1/8" miniplug.

I have upgraded drivers on my soundcard and videocard. As well as on my tuner card.

I have used two different programs: PowerVCR II and Xpert TVR
I have tried setting the record volume set to about 20%
Does this on all setting whether MPEG1 or MPEG2.
I thought it was my soundcard but its fine when just watching TV, its when I go to record that the sound is added and only on the recording. The noises is very loud and I have uploaded a clip that I captured http://www.visitdillsboro.com/300zx/badnoise.mpg

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks,

  2. Well I have given up on this capture card. I sent it back and ordered a leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert. Hopefully I will have less trouble with it.

  3. Before you do your capture, run GoldWave (http://www.goldwave.com/), create a new sound (like 30 seconds long), press F11, select the volume tab and adjust the volume so that when you record the volume never goes off the scale.

  4. Check into getting an attenuator cable. $7 at www.soundprofessionals.com

Works for me. The soudn was too hot coming out of the VCR for my soundcard's preamp to handle. Setting lower recording levels did nothing but lower the volume of the already distorted audio. The attenuator cable lowers the strength of the signal before it hits your soundcard's line-in.

  5. What format were/are you capturing the audio in? I was having a similar problem: hissing noise on my captures (AIW 9000 Pro), but not while watching live. I found if I captured the audio as LPCM instead of MP2, it was crystal clear. There was even a hiss if I converted the .WAV to a .MP2 off line later. Not as bad, but still noticeable. But If I capture audio as LPCM and convert to AC3 using ffmpeg, I get excellent results.

  6. Thanks everyone for your help, but I already sent the card back to newegg. I believe it was probably the source was too hot for the soundcard, but kworld tech support was of no help and I ran out of time before I could return it. So now I will have a leadtek and if I get the same problem I will try the attenuator cable. Thanks,
