  1. I have authored a DVD with DVDlab and burned it with Nero. It works fine on my PC and 2 DVD players and on a friend's new mac, but on one mac powerbook it wouldn't even register the dvd. another copy played on it about half way and then stalled on the
montage. Also on one DVD player the sound was skipping. Grrrrrrr!

I'm using -R DVDs, can someone tell me what I can do to get reliable playback when I burn a DVD?

    thanks!

  2. From the "what is a DVDR" section:

    DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R/W was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 92% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 76% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
    DVD-R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.

    DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R/W has some "better" features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 87% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 76% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
    DVD+R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by the DVD+RW Alliance.

  3. Yes, I am aware of all that...that wasn't really my question.

  4. Well, you can try burning with different media, a different burner or buy commercial (pressed) dvd's.

What that info says is that burned dvd's aren't going to be compatable with all players all the time.

Perhaps someone else can give you better answers.

  5. Sharktacos,

A couple of questions that might help us...

    1) What Media ID are you using?
    2) What encoder/settings did you use?
    3) Why not burn the DVD-R in DVD-lab?

  6. 1) What Media ID are you using?

    sorry, what' a media ID?

    2) What encoder/settings did you use?

Do you mean to make the MPEG? I used TMPGEnc with the standard settings for NTSC video. Is that what you are asking?

    3) Why not burn the DVD-R in DVD-lab?

I'll try that. I'm also planning on switching from "Nero" to "Sonic Recordnow", and trying different media too.
