I hadn't even thought about this topic until I happened upon a discussion of it by chance. I'd assumed that any DV codec out there would basically just render the video as exactly what you get when you play it from the camcorder. No alterations, no frills, nothing; just the raw video with all its hypothetical shortcomings. It seems this assumption was wrong.
Well, what is the right codec to use? I'm not looking for any sharpening of the image or anything else like that. If I decide it needs such a thing, I'll assign it from within Avisynth or whatever. All the reading I've found on this has indicated that a straight-up nothing-added DV codec is too much to ask. I am hoping not!
