  1. Hi!

I have just started burning DVDs after buying a new DVD burner. Previously I would use VideoCDs. The software I use is TMPGEnc, but I have encountered a problem.

Some of my AVI files that I wish to re-encode are NTSCFilm format, and TMPGEnc had settings you could load for those files for VCDs. However, there are no settings in TMPGEnc for NTSCFilm DVDs. This is frustrating, because if I choose PAL format or NTSC format there are jerky moments in the playback of the film due to the poor sync.

Does anyone know of a way to get DVDs to encode in the NTSCfilm format on TMPGEnc?

    Thanks for your help,

    Dan

23.97fps is not valid for DVD as such

You can encode at 23.97fps with 3:2 pulldown. This adds flags to the mpeg stream that allow it to be played back at 29.97fps. Without these flags 23.97fps is invalid for DVD.

Mpeg-1 on dvd must be 29.97fps as mpeg-1 does not support pulldown.

This is all for NTSC of course.

Did it work? I'm curious just in case AVI2DVD doesn't work too well. I've tried one file using this program and it worked fine, but I think the AVI file was NTSC and not NTSCFilm.
If AVI2DVD fails, my back up is TMPGEnc!
