  1. This is an unusual problem, at least I can't find anyone with the same symptoms. I have been capturing quite happily for several years, first via the onboard sound card (Soltel SL-75DRV motherboard, VIA chipset), then via an external USB soundcard (roland UA100).

I recently decided to install an external PCI soundcard (C-Media CMI8738) as I want to save a bit of space and was never too happy with the onboard sound capture.

As I was rebuilding my PC, I took the opportunity of installing the new card at that time. I am running a dual-boot Windows 2000 system, with one boot specificaly for video capture.

The new card installs fine, with no errors reported. However, I am unable to select "line in" as a recording source, either in the Windows Volume Controller or the mixer application that came with the card. the only options I can select are "mic", "wave" and "stereo mix".

I can select "line in" fine under "playback" options, and the winTV card feeds the audio through to the speakers fine. I simply can't capture direct from "line in". Capture quslity from"stereo mix" is awful.

I have disabled the onboard sound (as advised in install guide), and have no other PCI cards except the new soundcard and existing TV card

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Only one thing springs to mind...
...have you disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS (rather than via windows)?
    Just a thought

When you say you cant select the line-in for recording is it because the selection is missing from the record panel? If thats the case then choose options/properties in the record panel and check to see if you can check the line-in box there.

  5. I can't see "line in" in the recording panel, and if I go options-properties-recording there is no "line in" option to tick (just "mic", "wave" and stereo mix"). Cheers.

  6. Thanks, I'm already using those Drivers - get the same results with those and with the earlier ones that cam supplied with the card. Weird.

Do you need to connect the audio out jack on your sound card to the audio in connector on your capture card? I had to do that with my ATI AIW card.
I don't know why this would affect your menu selections, but....just a thought.
