I have a liteon 411s rev.F DVD+/-rw recorder and a Sony DAVS 400 DVD player.
Before I bought the liteon I borrowed a film copied onto a DVD-r and tried
it in my dvd player. It worked perfectly. I then looked in dvdr-help at the
player section and noted that 13 users said that the DAVS 400 played
dvd-r discs. Thus reasonably confident, I bought the Liteon.
To date, I have not been able to play any of the dvds that I've made, in the
Sony. The error message is "the disc is dirty" which of course it is not!
I've used Nero 6 to burn videos captured from vhs, I even bought a legal
copy of DvdXCopy Express and copied a couple of my own dvd collection
onto dvd-r and dvd+r to try that.
I'm using Memorex and 'One' discs, the reason I bought some 'One' discs was
because the only dvd that plays is the original test disc that I borrowed,
and that is a 'One'.
I'm at a dead stop here guys, have I got a load of bum equipment, or
as I'm beginning to suspect, am I doing something wrong?
DvdXcopy is so simple to use you wouldn't have thought I could have
messed that up!
I'm using WinXP home with an Athlon 2200+ , 512megs of ram
and 200 gb of hd space.

Are you burning all of them with Nero? The latest version (6.3.0.3)?
Also, have you tried your burned DVD's on other standalone dvd players besides your own? DId you try playing it on your computer? -
Have you updated your firmware for your liteon burner? If you havent then you best you do cause it fixes the dvd-r compatibility issues the older firmware has,it fixed my dvd-r problems.

Hi proggy & jonso
Yes I have updated the Liteon firmware to version F, all the dvds work
on the pc perfectly, I'm using Nero v6.3, I only have one other dvd
player to try which is my sons. None of them work on that, but then neither did the original dvd-r copy that I tried on mine. He's had that player for 2 years and it doesn't appear to play anything but commercial dvds.sidnee -
hmmm..
If you ever get the chance..I would keep 1 of those DVD's with you and if you get close to best buy or Circuit City, drop buy and see if they start up on the new players.
Not quite sure.if you are burning the DVD content you get with DVDXCopy, with Nero...maybe there are some option's your choosing in Nero that could be causing it. Do you know anyone else with a DVD +R or -R burner? Have them try the same, with the media you are trying and see if it works. I have a Liteon 401S and have had no issues with +R (which is the only kind it does) and I am ripping and burning in the same fashion you are (DVDXCopy to Rip..and Nero to burn). I used the Nero guide on this website to make sure all my setting are correct..which is unfiortunately down now. I think the setting were make sure you are using:
Filename length= Max of 11 chars (8+3 chars (ISO Level)
Character = ISO 9660
Relax iso Restriction = (NO RESTRICTIONS..make sure boxes are unchecked.)
Make sure Audio folder is present when burning but empty
Other than that, I have also heard some version of Nero have issues with DVd burning.. or at least that is what the guide said. I currently use 6.3.0.0. So far..it works like a charm.
