  1. I have converted a couple vcd/svcd video files to dvd format using tmpge, the process takes a couple hours

was wondering if this is even worth the time it takes

they are being watched on a tv

are there any benefits to converting them?

or am I just wasting my time

1.) you can fit 5 to 6 CRD's on one DVD
2.) Just my opion, but they "look" much better converted to DVD. I know that that subjectively that makes no sense but to my tired old eyes it's true.

VCD doesn't require encodeing, just drop the dat into TDA and will resample audio and the 352x240 is DVD legal. SVCD's 480x480 is not and will need to re-encoded.

The only benefit is that (for me) it takes 2 - 3 CD-Rs per movie in SVCD/CVD while I put 2 movies per DVD-R.

  5. so then there are no quality benefits to converting the video??

I always thought since it made such a larger file after the conversion that it should increase the quality maybe

garbage in = garbage out. vcd quality doesn't just magically turn into dvd quality just because you author it
Basically the only benefit is convenience - as previously stated, you can fit multiple movies on the one disc and you don't have to change the disc halfway through.
    If in doubt, Google it.
