hey guys im a newbie here and i was wondering if any of you have experience with sony vaio's running GigaPocket. I hope someone out there knows what I am talking about. Well the system is an unbelieveably great system except the only problem is the gigapocket card.
For anyone that does not know what the GigaPocket bundle is, it is a card exactly like an ATI all in wonder where you can capture, watch tv (tv tuner), record shows, burn them to DVD, etc... It is bundled with programs like GigaPocket (watch live tv, record), Click To DVD (Burn to DVD, capture from analog device such as VHS or firewire), DVGate (for editing and caputre also).
So heres my problem. This GigaPocket is designed by Sony only for Sony products but these products do not always get the job done. However, NO WINDOWS DRIVER exists for the GigaPocket card. Therefore, when i want to use programs such as Beyond TV 3, Adobe Premiere, or even the new Nero, i cannot use it. The card is called SMRTCapture but it does not work with any other software then the sony products. While using the Sony products I do not have the freedom I would normally have. I cannot pause live TV, upload VHS's succesfully, and recording shows is a hassel. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?? Where I can maybe have my system think of the GigaPocket card as a different card, therefore allowing me to use other programs??
Thank You Guys so much in advance,
lb

You may find MUCH better luck with boards who associate with Sony Vaio computers:
http://pub173.ezboard.com/bunofficialsony - VAIO VILLAGE
I have an RX-860 although this doesn't come with Gigapocket... I specifically purchased this WITHOUT it, as I wanted to install my own capture card (I have an ATI AIW 8500DV). -
yes, well that was probably the way to go, but it is too late now!
anyways, the people on vaio village are not open to helping and do not want to help me, i have tried there. they are pro-sony all the way.
can anyone help me further...
thanks -
I had a VAIO. the key to not being frustrated: stop trying to use Sony's proprietary software to do all this stuff.
better to use traditional stuff. if you have a digital camcorder you have all you need. use the passthrough and cap via firewire to the vaio's HD with DVIO or win XPs built in capturing cabability.
or, buy a cheap, or broken camcorder with passthrough (as long as the passthrough isn't brokenI found one for $20, the clutch is broken for the tape, but passthrough works great. (basically it's a cheap replacement for an advc)
or, buy an advc 100.
many many options as soon as you stop trying to use this proprietary stuff.
(If I misunderstood your intent sorry, but I cap my VHS stuff by the above method all the time)
