Captured a movie as an *.avi with VirtualDub, filtered and extracted the audio as a *.wav file with VirtualDub. Converted the wav to AC3 Audio with ffmpeggui to a *.ac3 file. Trying to author a MPEG-2 video, for later DVD authoring, with TMPGEnc plus -- feeding the avi video and ac3 audio to TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc gives an error message: "File: "xxx.ac3 cannot be open or unsupported"". Can TMPGEnc encode file with ac3 audio? If yes, how to do it? If no, how to do it with what software?

Your best bet is to simply encode the mpeg VIDEO file by itself (select "ES -- Video Only" from the choices in the bottom right corner) as an m2v file. Don't bother with the audio yet.
Then when you get around to authoring your DVD, import the m2v and the ac3 files separately. -
Thanks. In TMPEnc, in "Stream type", there is either "Video only", or "System (Video only)" -- which one? Can TMPEnc DVD Author load separate video and audio files for the same title?

ES creates an Elementary Stream and is generally best to use. System is a bit different. it will create and audio and video stream but leave the audio stream emtpy.
In TDA select your video source and once its loaded to can choose a seperate audio source, which would be the AC3 file.
