The paper that is most like factory DVD's is HP Brochure Paper. It's a little hard to find but well worth looking for it. Same green and white packaging as the other HP papers....but is nice and thin....and (semi) glossy on BOTH sides. VERY nice stuff for DVD and CD inserts.
DVD cases?.....I buy what is on sale....

I don't think it matters very much what kind of paper you use for DVD covers, since they go behind a clear plastic shield and never get taken out again.
CD covers, on the other hand, can be easily removed and handled. So if you actually print stuff on the back of the cover, you might want to use nice, glossy paper, like hech54 recommends. Otherwise, who cares?

Yea...you're right in a way. But I HATE that thick photo paper. You can't fold that crap. It is so thick that I need help closing the DVD cases....they keep wanting to pop back open again....

    Oh by the way ebenton:
    "....Ball 4.....Ball 8"

    LOVED that movie..

  5. For dvd covers i thed to use whatever paper is on offer in the photo papers ranges.
Current best buy in the Uk i have found is Hp everyday photo paper 170 grm @ pc world £12.99 for 100 sheets. Nice and glossy on one side not too thick so its folds great...
As someone else pointed out it dosen't want to be too thicker paper..Anything up to 200grm seems to be OK.

As for cases i get at a local computer fair as carriage is a killer on stuff like dvd or cd cases when bought in bulk...

The best paper that I've found for DVD Covers is Hammermill jet print photo paper - general use. It's glossy on one side, but it's very thin compared to "regular" photo paper...

  8. I think the HP brochure paper is much better than the normal printing paper I use and I would really like to use it for my DVD covers. The only problem is I have an HP photo printer and I can't get it to print from border to border. So far, the only work around I have for this is to use legal sized paper. Does anyone know how to get the HP photo printers to print from border to border or does anyone know of any high quality paper that comes in A4 or legal size?

It's the Hammermill multi project paper. That's the thin but good stuff. And for everyone that owns an HP printer, you are pretty much S.O.L. because their printers will NOT print the entire cover unless you use legal paper. it sucks, but it's true...

  10. Yeah, I kinda figured that that would be the case since I haven't been able to trick it into printing over the full length of letter paper. I haven't been able to find Hammerhill project paper in legal size. Do you know if they make it in that size?

  11. I dont understand why you want to use "legal" papers size 210 X 350 m/m.
I use A4 size (210 X 296 M/M) paper setting on my printer and print the covers in nero cover designer.
If you are using some other program to create them in set paper size to A4 (or letter if in states)
and create a box the size of the cover and put your design into that....
NO more problems trying to print all the way to the edge of the cover.
    Simple isnt it.....
A standard dvd case cover is only 185 X 270 M/M. So using legal paper you are just spending more money to waste more paper.

I use Meritline DVD cover paper. The Photo stuff looks good but for some printers has a very high dry time. I usually leave the stuff out in the air overnight at LEAST before putting it in with my HP. With my Epson over night is more then enough.

That paper with a custom config in coverXP has been all I ever needed.

I use HP Brochure in A4 size. I also use Multicover Print to print them out. I have never had any issues my way.

  14. I use Nero to print most of my covers. I did try settingt the paper type to both A4 and legal but my HP printer refuses to print to the edges. Hech54, if you could provide me with a link to the HP Brochure paper in A4 size, it would be greatly appreciated. I have spent about $100 in paper and ink trying to find the best combination for my DVD covers.

You are talking dvd case covers here yes ...
What paper sizes does your printer accecpt ? as a dvd case cover is a lot smaller than A4 so you should have no problems printing a cover on A4 paper.....
    A4 = 210 X 296 M/M
    dvd case cover = 185 X 270 M/M
I use nero as well for dvd covers i use normal paper setting in nero, my epson 900 is set to A4 by default. The only setting i alter in nero for dvd case covers is change to Landscape - Print/General/Set up/Orintation for printing the cover..

  16. My printer will accept anything that is not wider than 9" so A4 paper works just fine. The only problem is that I have not been able to find high quality paper in A4 or larger size.

Where do you live ??? Most good stationary retail outlets sell good quality A4 paper, Most PC stores will sell it as well. Plenty of online retailers as well...

  18. I use Kodak Premium Glossy Paper Medium weight. They have some good deals on them if you have a Sams Club nearbuy. Like 60 sheets for 20 bucks, cant beat the cost and the printouts are awesome.

  19. Well, I live in Denver, Co. (US). I guess this is one of those situations where the stuff I want is sold only outside of the US.

Would have thought a city of that size would have loads of stationary suppliers or pc outlets..... Heck even ASDA (Walmart to you) sells photo paper....
    Try this list

Plenty to choose from there and if they aint got any they should be able to point you in the right direction....

  21. I can get high quality photo and brochure paper with no problem.....it's just that I can't get them in A4 size here. Everything is in letter (8.5"x11") size. Thats just a bit short to fill in a dvd cover using my HP printer (considering it will not print border to boder)

  22. Ah i see your problem now....
Is there not a option to reduce the margins on the printer ?
If not then its a new printer, Epson are good...A lot of the new ones do borderless prints.
