  1. I got the dvstorm..finally..did my first capture last nite...from vhs..looked real good in the dvstorm capture window. I saved it as an avi file. Reopened it in the dvstorm program and still looked just like it was on vhs..real good...

I then opened it in adobe primiere and played it, and it looked ok, except the quick motion of people had a window blind effect, kind of a flutter in slow motion..

Why is that? is that flutter really there and if so, why did it not show up on the storm playback? during capture it never said anything about losing any frames, so assumed it did not lose any..thanks..t

When you say 'windowblind effect' that makes me think of interlacing right away.

Just briefly, interlaced displayes alternate between the even and odd scan lines. Since your computer monitor does not do interlacing, it will not appear correctly. Conversely, this effect will disappear if played on a TV (most of which are interlaced displays)

I am not familiar with this DV storm, but its output may have been showing you ONLY odd, or ONLY even scan lines, which effectively reduces the resolution by half, but masks the "windowblind effect" while playing to your computer's monitor.

I will be much happier when all devices everywhere use progressive (not interlaced) scan!

Right now, you kind of have to decide which is your target audience when doing video editing. You can make it look good on TV or on the computer, but you cant pick one best setting for both.

At least this is my experience.
