  1. Hello,
I'm going to capture the video portion of my DV ( D8 ) using TMPGenc.
What are the next steps to capture the audio? The software to use?
I guess I'm looking for a general outline to go by through these steps.
Or, if it has already been posted, please re-direct me.
    Thank you for your time!

  2. Sorry what are you trying to do exactly. TMPGEnc is an encoder, it is not used for capture.

Are you trying to capture(transfer DV) or are you wanting to encode it to a different format. If so what do you want your final output to be.

  3. Hello,
I apologize Craig, I'm encoding with TMPGenc, I should have waited until I slept before posting my question.
I'm going to try and encode just the video as suggested in one of the how to guides in here, using TMPGenc. But I don't know what to do with the audio portion yet. I can't find any separate Audio How To.
I've been trying to get two one hour D8 tapes captured, encoded and authored onto one DVD. Haven't been able to yet. I'm able to capture most of the time, ( although the last attempt resulted in a file 1/3 the size it should have been ).
The main problem comes when I try to author with the software that came with my PC. Apparently it re-encodes the audio part of TPMGenc's file so the job will not fit on the DVD.
So that's how I'm where I am, trying to sort through the audio...then on to authoring, hopefully.
I have plenty of space. I'm using a Sony Handycam D8, firewire, capture with Windows Movie Maker, Sonic or Dell Movie Studio. I have a recent retail box version of TMPGenc.
Thank you in advance for your patience and time, and for any HELP.

  4. Sounds like your authoring program reencodes the audio to uncompressed pcm, there are a few packages that do this. There is a huge disadvantage to using authoring software that does this as it limits the amount of video you can get on 1 disc because the audio takes up so much space. My suggestion would be to dump this software and get and get a package that will accept mp2 encoded audio.

  5. I have a video clip AVI with DIVX(MPEG 4) video, VBR MP3 audio. I have spent considerable amount of time trying to get to VOB file to burn a DVD. Because of the VBR audio I was advised to extract audio to wav format using Virtualdub, next using headAC3he, to convert wav to mp2. Then run clip in TMPGEnc to encode and extract MPEG 2 video only using the Baldrick guide. I have a good m2v video file and good mp2 audio file. However, when I simple multiplex them in TMPGEnc Plus it is a mess. Has jerky video and garbled audio. I don't know how to fix this, but I was thinking of trying to convert wav to AC3 and see if this will mux with my m2v video. I am now in process of using Ulead, to get this video clip to a VOB file. This program does the complete operation, from AVI to and including burning to DVD disc. I don't know what quality I will have, but it can't be much poorer than what I have already done. The only reason for trying TMPGEnc Plus was to get the best quality possible. Advice wanted Foz
