I already have a JVC VCR w/ internal TBC, but I have heard they don't do the same thing as a real TBC. I have been told that they are just a simple variable line delay which solves jitter off of the tape, but is not a full frame storage TBC. I don't have video capture problems, but I do have some audio sync issues with old tapes (quickly going in and out of sync in the same spoken sentence). This happens on my PC capture card and on my stand alone DVD recorder. I have been considering 3 TBCs. The AVT-8710, TBC-1000 and the ACE Converter. The problem with the AVT-8710 is that I have heard some people claim it doesn't work too well. I wonder if it is really a full frame storage TBC like the ACE and TBC-1000. The TBC-1000 has the problem of having no adjustments at all. The ACE (gthelectronics.com) has many more features than the others: White Balance, Color Balance, Horizontal and Vertical color shift, contrast, brightness, saturation, converts PAL/NTSC/SECAM to any standard, does audio and video fades, has YUV output via SCART, is a full 8Mbit full frame TBC, and has several zoom and aspect ratio adjustments. Many of these features I don't need, I mainly need the TBC, and zoom adjustment (my 16:9 TV has a design flaw and expands vertically by 50% instead of the correct 33% when trying to expand a 4:3 letterboxed image to fill the 16:9 screen). However this device is VERY expensive....approaching $500. I have found several opinions of the TBC-1000 and AVT-8710, but I have not seen anyone mention the ACE. I am a bit nervous spending that kind of money on the device. Does anyone have this device and can share their opinion? Thanks.

Even the SIMA SED-CM is good for weak usage (like frame drops).
