  1. Hi all.

i'm using this DVD-R/RW drive (firmware 1033) and works fine but
ripping speed is always limited x1.7(when i use DVD Decrypter).

some of users of this drive say that SD-R5002 has no speed limit.

so i want you ask that this is true or false or
there is another no speed limited firmware for SD-R5002.

please tell me if you know about this.

    thanks.

I have one I purchased in Feb (I'm at work and its at home - uncertain of firmware version) from Newegg. I 've never flashed the firmware and I've never had it fail to burn properly. It rips with DVDdecrypter at about 3.5x - noticeably faster than the DVD-rom it replaced.

  4. well this is an old topic but...
i solved the read speed problem by myself.

deleted the secondary IDE channel in IDE controler
and then shutdown the PC and boot.
Windows would find the new device which is the drive soon.

so my SD-R5002's read speed became pretty high after this!
the average is x4-6 max is x11.8. yes!

i think the problem was that DMA mode didn't work well by something happened.
and that was not related the firmwares.

    thanks.

  5. I hope you have solved the problem, but after my recent experience I thought I'd give my 2c advice:

I don't know what operating system you're using, but in case it's Windows 2000 make sure you have DMA enabled for the IDE Controller on which the SD-R5002 is sitting. Go to control panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->Secondary IDE Channel (or wherever it is) ->Advanced Settings and Choose Transfer Mode "DMA if available". You may have to reboot.

Thats's what solved my reading issues.
