  1. Hi.,
A newbie here so please bear with me if this isn't the right place to post or my question has been answered elsewhere that I haven't been able to find.

I have just purchased a Toshiba DVR19DT which arrived less than 24hrs ago. Very pleased with the machine and the quality of pictures and recordings.
Whilst playing with my new toy I noticed that though the machine is fully badged up as a DSVR19dt is has extra features that are not mentioned in the user manual or Toshiba's own specs.
The DVR19DT is a DVB DVD/VCR combo recorder only! Yet the machine I have here has a HDD led indicator and selector switch not featured in the manual. Also if the HDD is option is selected and the record activated the following message is displayed.

" Recording Error Can not record on this HDD E48"

When I purchased the recorder I only expected what it said on the box as they say. But given the extra HHD led and selctor and also the error message is there any likelyhood of a compatable HDD being fitted inside the machine and getting a working HDD/DVD/VCR combo.
Very likely wishful thinking I know but I can't understand why these extra's are there if the machine wasn't partial equipped already for HDD recording.
Any advice, thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

    Derek

Which is good news because it probably means you can install one.

The option is probably there in the firmware because the same device is sold with and without a hard drive as two different models. If you go to their web site:

    http://www.home-entertainment.toshiba.co.uk/DVD-Players-Recorders-Upscaling/DVD-Recorders-VHS/

You'll see that the HDD an non-HDD recorders look identical.

  4. Thanks Bjs and Jagabo!

I was hoping this might be the case, but was expecting someone to say OH NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!
The link to toshiba above shows the RDxv60dt, their latest 3 in 1 machine. Their previous model, which is on sale at Homebase, the Rdxv59dt is outwardly identical to the machine I have here albeit lacks the HDD.
The rdxv59dt has a 250G HDD and it seems I can get one for around £30 (30 GBP).
Think I will leave trying to add a HDD until after the warranty has expired though , just incase something goes wrong with it, hopefully not though as TOSHIBA seem more reliable than the likes of PANASONICS similar offerings.
Any thoughts on which HDD's would be compatable with the Toshiba or would any laptop hdd do the job and what if anything would need doing besides formatting to FAT32 before hand or would the machine format the drive once it was detected?

    Derek.

  5. You'll have to check whether it uses a 3.5" (desktop) or 2.5" (laptop) drive. I don't know anything about what formatting it requires. Probably not FAT32. I suspect if you install an unpartitioned, unformatted drive it will format the drive itself.
