I like to addres a problem and some related sub-problems concerning encoding, chunking and authoring one VOB-file into 4 svcd's.
I hope this forum can be of help since I can't find any answers to it after searching this and other forums.
I uses the latest ffmpegX version, properly installed and the proces I describe below is working fine with testchapters from a DVD but not with the comlete file.
Two weeks ago I didn't know anything about converting and encoding and did a lot of testing and try outs with all kinds of software. ffmpegX turned out to do the job best. Really fascinating stuff!
Based on other topics in this forum I include as much info as possible so this might be a long post.
Problem: Instead of encoding the whole Vob-file, ffmpegX encoded only a part of the Vob-file resulting in a part of the videostream (576 MB) plus the complete audiostream (247 Mb) nicely put together in one Toastready svcd diskimage ( harrypotter-1.mpg_02.img etc.). What I had expected this morning were at least 3 ready to burn svcd images (harrypotter-1.mpg_02.img to -3, etc.)
I have bought Harry Potter 2 dvd (3:4 PAL) for my children but I want to put the movie on 3 or 4 svcd's with just the Dutch language so they don't have to mess around with the menu's and language choice. I chose to put it on 4 cd's due to the length of the movie (155 minutes)
I ripped the DVD with OseX with video and only dutch audio into one VOB-file (4,33 Gb)as Programme stream. (tested and playable to the end with VLC and Mplayer)
The file-info:
I used the standard SVCD preset (which gave the best output on a testchapter burned to a 74-min CD-Romrw).

Try to encode your VOB by disabling both "Decode with Quicktime" and "Decode with mplayer".
