Maybe you can help me out. I've searched around and can't find the answer to this.
I have a PAL DVD that a friend from England gave me (I live in the U.S.). My standalone DVD player can't play PAL, and I don't want to change either of the DVD drives on my computer to PAL as everything else I do is NTSC. Is there some software (preferably freeware, since I only have this one PAL DVD) that I can use to play this DVD, even if by ripping it to my HD first? I don't want to convert it to NTSC or back it up to DVD-R, just watch it.
Thanks!

Sorry to dissapoint you, THEXFILES, BUT DVDidle (DVD Region-free) has a little bit different tasks to do.

You need to get DVDDecrypter. Make sure you open it BEFORE you insert the disc. Use .ifo mode....make sure the settings are "region free" in DVDDecrypter(I think it is set that way by default)....rip it to your hard drive. I use PowerDVD to open the files.Originally Posted by cdb
Keep in mind you'll need a hard drive formatted in NTFS format to accept files larger than 4gig. Do some experimenting with DVDDecrypter...that is how I learned...for the most part.....and reading here on this forum..

Take care knowing where the files are going so you don't clog your hard drive with lost files.
If I can do it....anybody can...

There' s no problem playing PAL DVD's with any software DVD player. If your disc is a burned DVD-R (or DVD+R) it doesn't contain any region limitations and can be played back with ANY DVD-Rom drive. However, if it's original, pressed DVD it may (or may not) be region limited -> rip it to HD first.
