Good Day.
Just wanted to ask : What should normally appear under imaging devices on device manager if a dv camera (regardless of brand/model e.g. SONY - TRV22, JVC - GRD70U, etc.) is connected via firewire to a computer running on win98se to confirm that said camera is properly recognized by the computer?
Any info will be highly appreciated.
tnx

I dont think anything shows up. You just need a capture program to start capturing but windows does not show that a device is connected.

I am not sure about Windows 98, but on Windows XP my Sony TRV-740 shows up in the device manager as "Sony DV camera" under imaging devices when connected via firewire.

Generally, under Win98SE it will say something like "Sony DV Camera" under Imaging Devices once the camera is recognized on the Firewire port. At least, it does with my TRV103 Digital-8... (And with a borrowed Canon miniDV I used a while back, it came up with "Canon DV Camera", so presumably it does pick up some kind of detailed device ID when you connect the cable to the camera.)

same thing with my jvc 5000. It says jvc dv camcorder. If I hook up a standalone pioneer burner via firewire, it says "unknown device", but still captures.

Good day gentlemen.
Thank you very much for the time and info.
I was just wondering why in my system running win98se, the firewire card is properly recognized as 1394 bus controller but under the imaging device list, only a small icon of a videocamera is displayed.
And whenever I check on its properties no particular brand/model of any sort of unit is listed but it says that "This device is working properly" I tried to open scenalyzer to verify if it's possible to capture, but it seems that it was not detected. Also in premiere 6.5 I opened the capture window went to device control settings to check its status but it says offline.
Again, my sincerest apology if this inquiry has been posted before, but I only wanted some info and assistance because I entirely depend on this forum.
More power.
