Softsandra (benchmark program) says that AMD is faster/better performance than the Intel. Even the AMD 2000+ is faster than that Intel chip. I'd get the AMD

AMD all the way more bang for your buck and ya can keep some of my lame a$$ intel design engineers buds from meeting their bonus quota lol

Either is fine, but if you are doing video and the P4 is one of the 800mhz FSB ones I would lean that way. Assuming the extra cost isn't more then you would want to pay for the small speed boost it would provide. FSB = the good.

I agree with flaystus, both are good choices but go with the Intel. Reason is the 800 FSB and Hyperthreading - both will help cut your encoding times...

i have a 3.0 GHz Intel 4 with HT (800mhz FSB), and i can tell you that i don't know anybody with an AMD that can do tasks (i.e video processing) faster than i can. that said, i would prob recommend getting an AMD if you are building your own PC, since you can spend the extra money on RAM or whatever, but i got sick and tired off putting mismatched parts together on my previous systems. i spent some extra cash and got a beast from Dell.
oh yeah, i should mention that spending the extra money on something like RAM is a sound investment, but you have to look at what you will be doing most of the time. upgrading my memory from 512 to 1gb gave me a noticable improvment in things like encoding video. not much improvment in other things though, such as video games. at least not worth the $200+
