    my canopus advc 100 is due any ay know so i would like to know what you guys think the best prrogram is for converting the captured DV to MPEG2 to burn onto a DVD-R and also what is the best for creating chapters, titles etc on the DVD

    Just my opinion, but TMPGEnc Plus and TMPGEnc Author. Easy to use, reasonably priced, trials available. These work well with the ADVC-100. VirtualDub is also useful for editing the DV file.

    Agree with redwudz's suggestions.

    you'll also need a capturing s/w app, such as movie maker 2 (free), ScenalyzerLive($) or similar to manage the advc's dv data output.
    Expect to use about 13gigs/capture hr of HD space.
