  1. I have the DVD of Rain Man and I want to show certain scenes for a presentation I am going to give. I'd like import these segments into Adobe Premiere 6.5, so converting them to divx to edit is not going to work. I later plan to export to divx.

For now, I'm using DVD Decrypter to place the VOB files on my HD. From there I've been using VirtualDubMod to convert to .avi files. I've been using the Microsoft Video 1 Compression scheme, which gives me large files (fine). This works decently, although audio can be slightly un-synced or REALLY un-synced.

Is there a better method? An easier method? I don't need to convert the entire DVD, just short 30 second scenes. Please help!

Continue to use VirtualDub. You can leave the audio uncompressed if space isn't an issue. Download the Huffman codec from the TOOLS section. They are a lossless codec, meaning you won't lose any qualty by compressing with that codec. It's ideal for AVI editing. Just be aware that the compression ratio for it is only about 2:1, so your going to have some very large files.

If you only need small segments, then you should save those segments directly in VirtualDub as small clips, and import those into Premiere.

Extract the M2V with stream processing and import that directly into Premiere.
