Thread: possible to capture from two differant sources/two movies?

possible to capture from two differant sources/two movies?

Strange question, but let me explain.

I do a LOT of capturing. I use a canon miniDV camcorder that is branched out through a sony vcr to a analog camcorder and my sat tivo box. So, that line actually has four capture sources for it.

I just put in a radeon9600pro aiw today. So far, I'm very impressed! I'm using it to capture mpeg1 from my tivo box, which is fine for watching some capture TV on my lappy.

I'm curious if I installed pinnacle in another directory, would it be possible to capture from my radeon9600pro aiw with one program AND capture from my canon miniDV with another program; AT THE SAME TIME?

I'm running a p4 2.4c @ 3.1ghz, so speed isnt an issue. My OS is running from a scsi cheetah, plus I have 3 additional HD's and an external HD. So, I wouldnt be capturing to the same HD either.

I am able to capture directly to mpeg2, encode a movie using tmpgenc, run emule, author a DVD, have some IE windows open AND burn a DVD using nero at the same time now; without a single dropped frame or any slowdown.

    thanks

    wow!!!

    it appears to actually work!!!!

I'm using pinnacle to capture from my miniDV and virtualdub to capture from the radeon. Explorer crashed when I first turn them both on. However, winxp recoverd that for me right away.

The most amazing part is that I'm using compression methods FOR BOTH and I'm NOT DROPPING FRAMES. I'm using xvid in virtualdub and I'm going striaght to mpeg2 full quality in pinnacle.

    so far, so good!

Hit "Alt + Ctrl + Del" keys then the Performance Tab and tell what your CPU usage is... I'm curious!

It was 45%-55% on average. Because of the duality nature of the p4 C series, the performance/cpu usage seems sometimes a little off.

It still needs more work and redesign on how I do it, but I know it's doable; which makes me very happy.

The next step is to get a VCR between the tivo and my radeon. I'd like to try and capture two VCR tapes at the same time, striaght to mpeg2 at full DVD quality.

that's be a feat, cant wait!

Interesting. I may try to get my hands on a DV input and see if I can dual input ATI MPEG2 and DV at the same time. Hmm....

The only thing I really wish I could do is install two differant instances of pinnacle studio. The program is my favorite for capturing and does a fantastic job for capturing to all types. Everything else about the program is horrible though. I tried to install it twice and it detected the other install, instantly installing it over the other one.

what would you suggest for capturing straight to mpeg2, in addition to using pinnacle?

The easiest way I can think of is to us dvio to capture from the miniDV and pinnacle for the radeon-mpeg2. However, you'll still have to convert the avi.

virtualdub seems to cut out after just 15 minutes, so that isnt an option.

    dumb.

I'm going to try and use ati's mmc for it's capturing the pinnacle studio to capture from the canon...
