DVD Burners Ripping Speed, any over 2x?

I was wondering with the burners if I decide to rip with a burner, is there a drive that rips a movie over 2x?

Most people don't like to rip with their burner as DVD rom's are cheap and burners can wear out. Lite-on DVD roms are fast for ripping. Why not just install one?

I agree, just get a separate DVD ROM and Lite-on's are great

I think I've got a LTD163 somewhere in a system and it fast enough for me

For dual layer around 6x to 10x, and single layer 8x up to as high as 15.5x. This is on my LiteOn LTD-163 the 166 is a bit slower but then it's on a slower computer.

Thanks, I think I will get a dvd rom.

the only reason I ask too is burners cost almost $100. and a DVD Rom cost around $40-50. So I just figure for $50 more get a burner too.

You can get a burner to rip faster than 2x, but you have to unlock it using a hacked firmware. You'll hear lots of complaints about hacked firmware, but I did it to my Pioneer 105 and am burning 1x disks at 2x, and I can rip dual layer disks at 6 or 7x. Yeah, people will say I'm stupid for messing with the firmware, but I've had it for about 8 months and everything is still working great.
