  1. How do the different formats compare when chasing play, watching the beginning of a program as it is being recorded? When fast forwarding thru commercials is the speed slow, like SP on a vcr, or is it variable with the recording speed you are using? I've been under the impression that Ram leads in this, but I have not been see them in action yet.

As far as I am aware RAM is the only format to do chasing play at the moment. Its to do with it's superior data transfer rate, something that +/- RW just can't cope with.

  3. Actually the new Pioneer models (310/510) will have the ability to "Time Slip" as well, although it will only be possible using the VR recording mode. Pioneer accomplished this feat by using a faster burner (2x or 4x... I'm not sure which).

Those Pioneers are models that have no hard drive right? I wonder if you have to format the RW disk before you can use it this way?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  5. I actually went to my Pioneer dealer to see the 310 in action, but the only guy that worked there that knew anything about was off that day.

Don't some of the earlier crop of non pannies have this feature?

  6. RAM has twice the data rate so its the only disk that can do it. You're talkinga bout disks right, not HDs?

looked at that and indeed you appear to be right, however strange that the one that can do timeslip (DVR3100S) is not the one that has the HDD, where strangely enough timeslip is not mentioned!
