  1. My brother (13) is looking to buy a capture card. It will be mainly used to import videos of him and his friends skateboarding, which are then made into little videos of all the good stuff. He is looking to spend about 100 dollars. Any advice on what he should get would be very helpful. Thanks guys.

Also some advice on what program to use when he actually gets the card. Something fairly easy, that has some nice effects and can do slow motion easily. Thanks again.

One that is of current production and within your price range. That will solve your capture hardware square, now what about authoring software. Some ATI cards ship with ULead, but I found that it didn't do what I wanted. You' are sure to get a lot of recommendations, but cost will drive your choice. But for what you want to do the following are on my desktop, Sonic MyDVD, Video Explosion, Video Deluxe, the latter two having a ton of features and they won't break your wallet.

  8. I wouldn't recommend the VE, because it is PCI-based (better go with something that's AGP if you're using it as your primary display adapter).
The AIW9000 is pretty cheap these days.

  9. I would go with the AIW from 7500 and up. I have the AIW AGP 7500 Radeon. Very good card.

It's alright. The VE is the PCI 7500. I have the PCI 7200. I also have an AGP 7200. Anything 7000-9800 should do. Just pick one.

The PCI 7200 cost me $75 in June. The AGP 7200 cost me $300 in 2001.
You can find the older ones for $75, and the newest ones for $500.
