  1. Can anyone help me with DVD-IT?

I`m running Win2000Pro on service pack 2 (i`ve tryed upgrading to service pack 4 but it causes errors with my hardware setup...)

I`ve got a 750meg AVI which i`m trying to process using DVD-IT 2.5 and after approx 3 hours, i get an error and the process stops...

Should i upgrade to service pack 4 or is DVD-IT not the best choice for encoding and burning DVD?

I`ve tryed all other freeware/shareware programs discussed on this site and for some reason, i can`t encode AVI audio to MPEG2 - both Nandub and Audiodub won`t let me do it!

When i encode the video (using Toolame for the audio) i still get a silent MPEG using all programs mentioned on this site!

    Where am i going wrong?
    Any help would be great!
    Cheers,
    Folky

Don't use DVDit! for encoding. DVDit! is one of the best authoring applications around, but like Nero, it's a horrid encoder. The encoder aspect was an after-thought, not the main goal of the program.

MPEG-2 isn't an audio format. MPEG-Layer II is the audio format (not the same as MPEG-2 video).

What kind of audio is in the AVI ?

Prior to upgrading to WinXP a few weeks ago, I was on Win2K with DVDit! PE 2.5.4 and had no problems.

Maybe you have FAT32 and not NTFS, and the encode locked at the 3.99GB mark? At any rate, it probably wouldn't fit the disc anyway, and that's approaching disc maximum filesize.

Use TMPGENC PLUS to encode to MPEG-2. Convert the audio to WAV format using BESWEET.

Drop the TMPGENC-made M2V video file and the BESWEET-made WAV into DVDit!, make your menus and author. Then open a burning application like Nero and burn away (again, DVDit! has errors on burning... it's only good for authoring).

  3. I wouldn't use any authoring app to encode. I use TMPGEnc for encoding and Ulead DVD Workshop for authoring.

  5. ...as an after-thought...
What is the ideal size to encode an AVI to for burning a DVD?
I`m using NTFS (i know cause i only re-formatted 2 weeks ago!), but the average size Mpeg2 i`ve been trying to encode in TMPGENC is 4.3gig!
....back to the drawing board i suspect....

    thanks again,
