Best advice I ever got when it comes to driving was when I was doing a performance driving course:

"Trust no one, assume nothing, they're all potential dickheads"

Hmm... as for a moment that I have experienced that most others have not the one that comes to mind is herding cattle using a helicopter in the outback when I was a Make a Wish ambassador.

otherwise, not so negative... I was sitting outside on the bleachers in high school, turned around and looked at a railing and noticed two flys having sex. so now I actually can judge whether a given activity is more or less exciting than watching flys f*ck.

i've seen that too. i was in mexico, i was just sitting at the kitchen table. i noticed about 12-16 flies *******. as soon as one flew away, the other would follow it around. i was bored so i just followed them. i lost interest as soon as they went behind my back. guess they wanted some privacy.

That's my driving philosophy.I've been in several accidents(none of them my fault) but luckily never seriously injured.

@Gees,
I know exactly what you mean about your life flashing before your eyes when you see a vehicle coming up behind you at high speed while you watch it happen in your 3"x9" screen of horror(rear-view mirror).

I've been rear ended three times(those are the worst because I saw it coming),t-boned once and two head ons.All accidents were at speeds of <25mph so I thank God for that.

The day I sat with my grandad for twenty minutes, despite the fact he'd died the hour before.
I was also with him three days prior and didn't realise at the time he was saying his goodbyes to me, I was 16 years old and the first time I'd been faced with death to be honest.
No one ever told me he was going to die, even sitting with him three days prior and not understanding his words (as a result of his cancer ridden body) I still didnt think he was dying, to me he was indistructable.
My father walked when I was three and my grandad was my rock.
I never thought I'd do what I did and sit with him after he died. I'd heard about people doing it but thought it was horrendous.
Only after he died did I realise that was my chance to say goodbye, and I took it.

His body was expelling air, and it came out in little whispers from his mouth.
That was something I'd never seen before.
I knew he was dead, but it didn't stop me putting my ear to his lips (thinking he was trying to breath)...
....in the hope he'd come around.

I know what you mean Will. Growing up, I only had two grandparents alive...both from my Dad's side. My mom's dad died when she was 17 and my mom's mom died when I was only 2 months old. My grandma(dad's mom) died about two years ago, god rest her soul, and I was fifteen at the time. The left side of her body was completely paralyzed from the time she was around 30 so she needed constant care so her and my grandpa lived with us. She was the sweetest lady and one of the people that you saw and it made you smile inside. A couple of days before she died, she started talking differently, as if she knew her time was coming. She gave me one of the biggest hugs ever before I went to school that day said goodbye. Then my aunt took her to our church that day and then back at her place to spend the day with her. At about 5:00 PM she said she felt tired and went to sleep and never woke up. I know what you mean...I never had the chance to say goodbye either. She was one of the greatest people I ever knew
