  1. Now that the hacked firmware for the Pioneer 106D is released, Im looking for the good cheap 1x media to burn at 2x. Any suggestions?

Here is the link for the firmware for those who have one. Thanks NIL.

Best 1x to burn at 2x is Ritek G03.

The CompUSA 10 disc packs (supposed to be Lead Data discs, haven't really checked mine but assume so) seem to be good. Only one failure and that was from a power failure. And I'm verifying almost all, so they are checking out ok. Good for local if you have one near you.

Is there any place that sells the Ritek G03 discs in single pack jewel cases? I'd like to test them in my nec 1300A AND dvd player before buying a bunch. Thanks.

I was under the impression that the 4x DVD-R RITEK discs (G04) were better than the 1x/2x DVD-R RITEK discs (G03).

No I don't mean just speed but more in terms of quality of manufacting including less problems such as edge burn playback problems, fewer bad discs in a batch, etc.

    Anyway care to comment?

I've burned about 30 optodisc at 2x so far of the 40 I picked up under Compusas name brand, so far of those 30 only one disc burned badly and I could tell as I burned that something was wrong from the sounds the drive was making. So Optodisc are ok, but Ritek is still my #1 pick for 1x disc to burn at 2x.

Ritek G04 are good with the little time I spent with them, but 4x disc are a little off topic to this thread.
