I have just got a dvd writer and wanted to know if I use the same settings when using TMPGenc as I did when I had just a cd writer.
I hope this is in the right section.
Thanks

If you are just making vcd's, yes.
If you are making dvd's, no.
That is if you were making vcd's when you had just a cd-r burner

I was making vcd's. If I make DVD's will it be better quality or what is the benefit.
-
Well, DVD will be better quality in most cases. Mpeg2 usually looks better than mpeg1. Also, DVD allows for higher resolutions than VCD, and more importantly, higher bitrates.
However, a DVD can be made using the exact same files as a VCD, and thus it will look identical to the VCD."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Will I get more onto the DVD rather than having to watch it on 2 cd's and in which case what settings should I use?
-
Yes. However, it is possible to have the bitrate SO high, that you actually get a couple of minutes less than a VCD. But an average you should get around 3-6 times the amount of space. Depending on the quality you want of course.Originally Posted by allycat"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."
