I have a 60min movie, and would like to cut the first 20mins off. what programs do i need to achieve this? I know Tmpegnc could do this aswell, but i don't want to encode the movie again.

  2. DVDshrink will crop a movie and will do without re-encoding and it's free.

DVDshrink will only accept dvd formats. I want to cut my .mpg, .avi. .svcd, etc..NOT DVD!

and besides, i dont think there is an option for DVDshrink to cut off your movie.

  4. Tmpegnc will cut without re-encoding. Go to the mpeg tools section.

For AVI you can cut with Virtualdub using direct stream copy and it will not re-encode, it will just copy the section you select as a new file.

    Is there a guide anywhere?

  6. There must be. Run the program name in the search in guides.

But I think you would figure it out pretty quick just by fooling around with it yourself. Go to Mpeg tools and then to "cut and merge." Select your file, double-click on it to get the preview window and then use the slider to position your beginning and end points.

But be aware, cutting mpeg can be messy because of the way frames can depend on previous frames. Look for black section breaks in your video for cut points.

  8. You'd probably be better off using an authoring program. I've been playing with the trial of TMPGEnc DVD Author lately, and it's fairly easy to use and the results are generally excellent. It accepts most formats, and editing is a snap.

Are you that lazy that you don't want to do a little research on your own. Your answer can be found in two clicks.

I don't know. It's alright i guess. anways, how do you save with V.dub? it only let me save in .AVI format. I wanna save it to the original format.

also, is V.dub capable of joining 2 files? I cut the movie in the middle but wanna join them back again.

  23. Well you're not helpin the people much here. What exactly is it you don't like about TMPGenc's cut and merge? I've never had a problem with it and the video file is exactly the same as I made it, quality and all...

I fully agree with most of the replies, "Beautiful Alone" why not stick to one (if not) the best encoders : TMPGEncoder with all its features?
