  1. Is there a package which will let you do a front-end menu, with a choice of buttons, and to be able to place them were you want. I know MGI Video wave does it. But, although you can do chapters, you cannot see them on them when you play the DVD. Easy CD 6 lets you choose the chapter button is static and square. Any help please. All this just to impress the family

There's lots to try. Depends on your budget, how flexible you want it to be, etc., etc.

Have a look at Tools -> DVD Author here https://www.videohelp.com/tools?listall=1#DVD%20Author
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

That is the catch right there, most DVD authoring programs that don't cost alot of money will not let you place them anywhere. Text is another story.

Well, at least I don't know of any

Least expensive with greatest flexibility might be DVDLab - BUT could be a steeper learning curve for some.

Easy to use and flexible is Ulead DVD Workshop, BUT for ~ 3x the price of DVDlab.

I use both, depending on the project.

The Newest version lets you move things around and create your own layouts.
