  1. Hi All

I´m very close to buy a Pioneer 106, but where I live it´s very difficult to find differents brands...

I would like to know the opinnion of the owners of a 106 about the medias they use.

    Thanks a lot
    Best Regards

  4. I'd first determine what media my player will accept (+ or - / or both) and then go from there. Hopefully soon a 106 owner will respond with their media experiences, I'm sure there are quite a few of them here.

  5. Thanks for your answer

In fact, the philips 580HC plays both, +/- and I tested with different discs that a friend gave me.

So, as 106 is DUAL, and my player too, now I´m interested in compatibility between brands and 106

    Thanks again

  6. My 106 has accepted everything that my 104 has. I use Accu, DVDpro, Verbatim and Lead Data DVD-Rs. All have burned successfully and played fine in all of my many players (Panny, Initial, Daewoo). The only problem I am having is getting a "True" 2x and 4x burn. I had the same problem with my 104 however. For some reason I cannot get 2x and 4x specified data to burn in 30/15 mins. Both the 2x and 4x options burn a full disc in 40 mins. I have no idea what's going on. I am using Nero 6, have DMA enabled, and latest firmware for the 106. Anyone help me with this problem?

  7. I have burned 8 Imation DVDs on my 106 and they all have been succesful. My Aiwa DV170 and Yamakawa 218 DVD players have played them fine.

This morning I burned a LEAD DATA DVD, but I didn't have a chance to test. I will tonight. The burned seemed succesful.

As for burning speed, I really haven't noticed if it takes longer. I usually burn at 2X(even if it is 4x Media) just to reduce the probability of failure. I do the same with CDs. I never burn more than 12X.

Well does it take you less than 30 mins to burn at 2x? If so, please tell me what firmware you have and how you are burning (Nero etc...)? Thanks

  9. Hmm, I think it's like 35 minutes, but I really don't know. I'll look at it next time I burn a DVD.

I use ImgBurn to burn. As for Firmware, I haven't touched it so it's the one that comes with the Burner from factory.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  10. @SergeantD...

I believe that I read about someone else having a similar problem. Someone suggested that they turn off the burn-proof protection and it fixed their problem. REMEMBER not to do anything but burn the disc if your burn-proof is turned off! Give it a try and let us know. If that doesn't solve it, buy some different media and turn your burn-proof back on.

I just purchased a DVR-106D w/2yr warranty from newegg.com for $196 and I am getting true 4X burns (15 min) using DVDPro 4X media. It is actually made by Princo... I didn't know this when I bought it... but it was hard to pass up at $1 each for 100. Their site had several users explaining that it burns beautifully on their Pioneer burners. I have had ZERO problems with this media burning it at 4X on both my 105 at home and my 106 here at work. So far I am approx 50 and 0 with this media...

I don't see the purpose of buying a 4X burner if you don't burn your 4X media at full speed. As long as you do a verify after the burn, you should be set. But I can see saving some $ by purchasing the 1X media.

I have also had nothing but success using the Ritek 4X with my DVR-105.

  11. I really don't have a need to rush my burns, so that's why I burn at 2x. If I ever need the speed, then I'll burn at 4x. I mean, just look at how many people have trouble with media when burned at higher speeds. Since time is not a factor, I prefer increasing my chance of a good burn.

It's like buying a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti. You are normally not gonna go as fast as that car can go. It is safer to drive at a lower speed, but you know that whenever you need speed, the car can give it to you!!!!

  14. I have a Pioneer 106 and I LOOVE it, its my first burner, and I started off using Ritek 4x (G04) and they work GREATTTT!!! I have burned over 80 of these discs, not one coaster (knock on wood). I have the 1.05 firmware and I multi-task when burning/ripping. Runs like a champ. The cheapest site I have seen these dvd is www.allmediaoutlet.com

  15. Hi.
I recently updated the firmware to the latest version in order to solve video freeze problems with Princo 4x and other cheap media............but nothing to do. All the DVD video (dvd2one+nero or clonedvd) freeze in the middle of the film and often before.
No problems with Ricooh, Verbatim, Pioneer and other good media.
    What should I do?

  17. I have the 106D and I use exclusively BeAll 4X media. IMHO, the best price/quality/compatibility.

I have the 105 and then bought the 106 to give a try. I was only burning -R disks and it worked perfectly. Same as the 105. The problems I had was some of my burning software didnt recognize the drive. Also a major problem I had was with the verbatim -RW disks I got. I am not sure if it is the disks fault or writer but they failed to do quick erases and then failed on full format. They just couldnt be cleaned. The 105 have no problems with these disks. I thought it may have been specific to disk but I traded a +RW for -RW and same issues with that one after X amount of burns. The pioneer -RW that I got with the 105 always worked in the 106.

Well, as u can see from above. The choice was clear what to do.......I returned the 106 and enjoying my older model.
All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

and I don't break them for no one!
