  2. For people who wonder, for the "-" type, they're made in Japan by Maxell themselves, and rated 2x.

And this answers my question I posted on the -R +R rant debate as to why you would NOT want to buy online.

Oh, and look at that...BOTH FORMATS, even that MAGICAL +R format regularaly sell for the SAME $19.95 ...and BOTH are on sall for the SAME price. 8)

BTW, the sale price isn't all that great when you take into account other sales. You are getting 1 pack free when you purchase 2 packs...that gives you 15 Maxell disks for the price of $2 plus tax a pop.

Being that Maxell makes a lot of the TDK DVD-R media...and the TDK DVD-R sales as well as Ricoh manufactured TDK DVD+R sales were as low as $1.20 per disk...and normally around $1.40 per disk....this deal isn't even close and not such a great deal...i'll pass.

huh? $20 (before tax) gets you 15 disc, how does that make it "$2 a pop"?

Not anymore, at least for DVD-R. The newer TDK 2x DVD-R are from Taiwan, so I still rate this Japan Maxell as higher quality. Not to mention most (not all although) of the time the price is after those stupid rebates.

it's a little cheaper than $2, you are getting 15 discs for about $20 bucks, that's only about $1.33 each.

That's right..I didn't take into account the 3rd pack free deal....I was just calculating the sale price of about $10 per pack....but I did just notice that this sale appears to be for 2x media...and 2.4x +R media..but not 4x media. IF that's the case, then the deal is still good...just not as good as other sales for 4x media..but still worth jumping on for those who need good quality media quickly.

It depends on how you classify a "deal". I consider more than just the dollar amount. These Maxells are much better than the run-of-the-mill discs I see on sale, such as TDK, Memorex, Fuji, Verbatim, and others. I'm paying a few cents more per disc, sure, but it's for higher quality. I'll wait an extra 15 minutes when I know the discs are better.

So do I and I recently got a 10 pack of TDK DVD-R 2x disks and they were still manufactured by TDK. Excellent quality disks...but for you to say that these Maxell's are better then Memorex and TDK DVD+R disks..as well as the TDK DVD-R disks is simply incorrect. First, many of TDKl DVD-R disks are still manufactured by Maxell and are of excellent quality...so how can you say that a TDK DVD-R disk isn't as good of quality as a Maxell DVD-R disk is just false.

The Ricoh manufactured +R TDK and Memorex disks are equally as high a quality as the Maxell disks and that's been proven. As far as what I consider a "deal"...well...it definitely isn't just based on the price....I'm a stickler for solid quality..no question about it....BUT..with that being said...I personally try to always wait on the next deal which was better then the last great deal. It's worked out and saved me plenty already..and will continue to do so. For example...when the Best Buy TDK DVD+R 4x disks were on sale for $129 a 100 pack...I grabbed a spindle....I've still got some of those left as well as about a zillion other brands...so i'm good on media right now. But I did jump on a small amount (25) of the Memorex DVD+R disks from Best Buy when they were $29.99 for 25....(which are manufactured by Ricoh).just like the TDK 4X DVD+R disks..when they were about $1.20 a piece...and that is STILL the absolute best deal on DVD 4X media to date!

This Maxell media is 2x media..of the same High Quality yes, but why would I want to pay 15 cents more per disk on this sale and get media that burns twice as slow? Doesn't make much sense, and being that i've gotten in on the best deals to date...i'm good on media for now. I'll wait like a hawk until more high quality 4x media goes down to $1.20 or less..and i'll jump on a boat load more at that time.

I don't use +R, so have nothing to say about that. My last TDK discs were TDK-mde, and I had some coasters. Media's fault. If you got TDK that are Maxell-made then that's cool. I've never seen Maxell cheaper than $12 per pack, so this was a great deal. I normally walk away when I burn, and I don't always fill every disc up all the time, so most burns are 20-25 minutes, the amount of time I get sidetracked by a tv show or the bathroom or dinner, so 2x vs 4x doesn't bother me much. I guess I just have a lot of patience. When it does bother me, I have a stock of 4x Riteks ready to go, but that's not often. Maxell has never let me down, and I can't say the same about any other disc, not even Ritek with as good as they've been to me (had some bad G3's in the past).

ahh...now I see...you were probably one of the unfortunate ones to get the CMC TDK DVD-R manufactured disks. If they weren't CMC, then they probably came from a plant which produces inferior media. It seems like this trend never ends.

. Maxell has never let me down, and I can't say the same about any other disc, not even Ritek with as good as they've been to me (had some bad G3's in the past).
And that's probably because Maxell has said recently in a statement that they currently don't allow for outside companies/sources to manufacturer their media. As a result, all media with their ID's which don't say Maxell on the label..are phony Maxells...such as those "OEM" Maxell's some got suckered into getting. Good to see Maxell take such a stance...and that's probably why their media is so expensive.

I too, have never had any issue with Maxell media...but unfortunately...today Maxell may operate in this manner...but tomorrow they may sign on companesi like CMC to mass produce their media. I hope that wouldn't be the case, but that hasn't stopped many other companies who once offered nothing but solid, stable, high quality media...from saving pennies per disk and allowing lower quality media with their names on them to be produced. Verbatim, Fuji, Memorex...just to name a few.

  12. can anyone confirm if this sale is for 2x Maxell media or 4x Maxell media?

I just read another post where the poster claimed to have purchased 4x Maxell media for the same price as the 2x Maxell media is on sale for.

    Anyone know?

  13. Well, I picked up 3 packs yesterday. They were clearly marked
as 4X on the package. There were other 2.4X media in the pile
but the 4X scanned as part of the sale. I guess the product code
between 4X and 2.4X is probably the same as new stock replacing
old ones. However that means you will not sure what you are
getting if you order them online. The price is good since the
disc comes in its own individual jewel case.

I took a friend to the store and picked up 6 packs of these, not bad for maxells, of course the -Rs are only 2x, but they are very nice disc for the price.

  15. Thanks for the post! I got six 5-packs, two for free. I originally ordered 3 on-line, but the coupon wouldn't take. I placed the order anyway to reserve them for in-store pick-up. When I got there today, I looked on the shelf first and they had 5 left. So I picked up 3, paid for them and then asked about the 3 I had waiting for pick-up. I explained the coupon didn't work on-line, so they refunded my on-line order and then I repurchased them with the coupon. I did this deal in San Diego, CA for the DVD-R media.
