  1. I am strongly thinking of one of these systems for the following reasons:

    - I have a dozen or so analog video tapes I want to digitize, edit and burn into DVDs.

    - I take lots of digital pictures and want to be able to make slide shows, etc.
    - I need a more robust system than I have now.

Any good reasons NOT to pursue?

    Thanks in advance,
    Allen

  2. well the sony vaio machines arent too bad, i have one PCRX405 all standard stuff, dual 30GB hardrive, 256 MBram upgraded to 764 but what i can tell you is that if you plan to capture convert videos you will need much more GB, Try to have a 2 seperate harddrives with a quick processor, someone here is bound to tell you something.

Hvae you considered having a customised machine.

  3. Kas,

Thanks for the reply. The reason I decided not to go for a customized machine is I am concerned about compatibility between all the hardware and software components I would need. With the Sony I do not have that issue. Reading many posts, it seems that the most often topic complained about is that a certain component doesn't work as advertised.

  4. vwcrusher,

i dont think you would have many problems with hardware and software issues if you were to have a customised machine, are you referring to something specific? If ur not sure what type of machine ur after then simply ask here.

I also was considering myself buying a machine solely for capturing and converting and i got ton of help from here, see the below thread
