Hey all!
A couple a days ago NEC posted another Firmware for NEC 1300. This must be applied in DOS.
The other versions where withdrawn as it destroyed some burners.
What strikes me is this from the "Readme"-file:
<<<<<<<<<<<
Even now the firmware 1.06 accepts Princo 4x DVD-R and MPO 2.4x for writing, our engineers have reported that the disc quality is awful (especially at outer area of the media) and write error could be occured.
>We still not recommend to use Princo 4x. (also wont be added to recommend media list!) >Customers should try slower speed(i.e. 2x) for better result.
<<<<<<<<<<<
Now, what do you guys think? I just last night ordered 100 Princos 4x, checked this morning when I read the "read-me-file, and they are already sent to me... Anyone wanna buy'em?[/b]

It's going to be tough work selling DVDr's that NEC technitions label as being awful

con999,
NEC is SO far behind on this stuff it's pathetic.
Chances are your Princo's will burn fine unless it's VERY old stock you bought.
Princo did have some 4x product about 3 months ago that had trouble at the very outer edge, but for the past couple of Months, they have been fine. Nec probably tested those out. -
I'm using some princo 4x printable DVD-R which burn all the way to the edge at 4x without a problem on my Sony DRU500ax burner. Maybe it's only a problem with the NEC drive.
