I work at a public access television station. Our new system requires muxed MPEG2 files. I can export from the timeline in Final Cut Pro 4 using Compressor an .aiff and .m2v file. From there I would like to mux the two and end up with a final file for playback. I was told ffmpegx could do this in earlier versions. However, both the techs(who sold us the system) and I are failing with the latest version. Please advise. I would love to register this product if we can use it! I've been cracking my head over this for well over two weeks.

  2. The audio should be .wav.

Major - thanks for the quick reply.

Would there be a better way to export in order to use ffmpegx? For example, I could export as a quicktime movie. I'm trying to avoid multiple conversions/steps. Specifically, I want to export from FCP and then convert to muxed MPEG2 with ffmpegx. Any suggetions?

    Thanks again.

  4. If you export to .m2v and get the audio as .wav you don't need to reencode in ffmpegX, you just use the Mux tool on the .m2v and .wav file to create a system mpeg-2 stream. The .wav is automatically converted to .mp2.

Alternatively, you can export to .mov with MJPEG A codec (or any other codec) and encode the .mov to mpeg-2 with ffmpegX (ie by using the DVD preset).

Major - thanks for the attention. I haven't had the chance to try this yet (I will on Monday) but a quick question: in exporting to .mov and then using ffmpegx to encode to mpeg2 - would that be a muxed mpeg2? The goal is to complete the process with a muxed mpeg2. Again, FCP only exports to .aiff audio files so that's why we're stuck there.

    Thanks very much!
