I downloaded a movie and burn it on a CD. They tell me that a SVCD so good, my player can support this, but I inserted my CD in my Sony and it's display VCD but nothing start, when I press PLAY it's say "Reading Impossible"
I try in my computer, work fine.
What's the problem ?
I check on the CD and there a MPEG2 file in a DIR, if I copy this file on a DVD-RW , do you think I will be able to play the movie ? or I need to convert......
My player is a Sony 725p
Thanks!

I would extract it from the disk and re-burn it as an SVCD with nero or another program. The standard SVCD isn't just a folder with a mpg in it. The burning program converts it to a dat or bin file. I'm not sure which.

How did you encode the movie? What type of file was the original file that you downloaded? What program did you use to encode the file to SVCD format? Did you use TMPGenc? If so, what option did you choose under MPEG Settings on the system tab as the stream type. Make sure it is set on MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR) if you want to create a SVCD.
It looks like your player is compatible to play SVCD's. I have Sony DVP-NS755V dvd player and it plays SVCD's very good. -
I didn't encode the movie, it was RAR file and with all the RAR decompressed it become a BIN file that I burn with DiscJuggler. So I don't what kind of SVCD is...Originally Posted by AMD2400
If I open the disk I see 4 folders :
EXT
SEGMENT
MPEG2
SVCD
in MPEG2 I got the AVI
Do you think I need to re-encode ? with a specific program ???
Thank

FTSHARK: I think I will try your method too , I give you some news. -
I hope it's an .mpg in the mpeg2 folder! If it is, then you shouldn't have to re-encode, it appears to be a genuine SVCD. Could be a media problem, try a different type of disc. Many DVD players will recognize CD-RW's better so try one of those if you have one.Originally Posted by symetric
BTW, you cannot just copy an SVCD file to a DVD-RW, the formats are not compatible that way."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
lol, sorry yup it's an MPG, humm my Sony 725p appear to read anything, ok I will try to burn to another media......but you think if I burn to a DVD-RW it won't work ?!Originally Posted by ZippyP.

You can't just burn as is, DVD's need to be authored (see the "author" section of this site). As well, SVCD's aren't in true DVD format and some conversion needs to be done, there are guides if you really want. 8)Originally Posted by symetric"Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa

did it also have a .cue file?
if not, copy the mpeg2 to HD and reauthor an SVCD like others said.
SVCDs use 2 Tracks, The .cue file sets it up, otherwise they dont work in stand alone DVD players.Ejoc's CVD Page:
DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy
DVD:
DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX
Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author -
Yes, I got a BIN and a CUE FILE.......ohh I see that why it's don't work in a Stand alone player...Originally Posted by Ejoc
