  1. Ok, its bad to rip a commercial (movies n' stuff) DVD and copy every vob using "My Computer ->DVD-ROM -> VIDEO_TS" etc. Is it bad to copy data (Files, Folders, MP3s, etc) that way?

  2. Actually, you can copy commercial movies with Explorer or some such as long as they aren't encrypted -- not all of them are. And if you've already ripped a commercial film and then created a DVD with it, you can certainly use Explorer to copy the VIDEO_TS and audio folders to your hard drive.

So.... by extension you can see that it's perfectly possible to just open up Explorer and copy any data that's on a DVD to your hard drive quite easily. Just try it -- you'll see.

  4. Maybe I'm just not communicating properly -- my point was that if you can copy commercial DVDs by using explorer (as long as they aren't encrypted) then by extension of course you can copy non-commercial DVDs in this manner. This is a posteriori reasoning.

    But just TRY IT.

Some discs incorporate data that is written much like that of a Playstation 2 game. I've had trouble ripping PS2 game movies (the movies on the disc, not the game) before, as well as ROM data from some commercial movie DVDs.

I'm not sure what to do on a few of them. Not a priority, so I've not looked for that info in a while.

Anybody that knows how to rip video game discs should post a backup method here, as they overlap with unreadable ROM material from movie discs. Copying it to the HD will either not work, or result in garbage files because of the anti-copy on the disc.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

But only for CDs. To my knowledge, there isn't anything that will work for DVDs.

(And since I just work up from a nap <g> I realize you are talking about the cut scenes anyway -- that would be *terrific* to be able to rip these, as some of them like Kingdom Hearts are nearly cinematic in their scope and design -- besides, I can't get my wife to play the game to watch them :>)

In answer to your question GOHAN,
No the DECRYPTOR type RIP is not suited to the kind of copy potection a non DVD title has..
It will say NO DVD found, or if your disc "fools" it it'll say NON-ENCRYPTED as it tries (usually failingly ) to copy your game to the hard drive

also I've had PC GAME copying success with CD-R WIN
Like alcohol it writes in RAW mode

  9. Yeah, but I think tx was asking about cut scene ripping (although the info about backing up the game itself is worth knowing).

I'd love to rip cut scenes myself, as they would be great on a DVD I could just play for my wife (originally I was thinking I'd just record my game play and do a whole lot of editing, but this might take 40 or 50 hours!).
