  1. Hi,

I've got a mpg file which is 723mb in length but it's only 12mins when I tried to play it? Can anyone tell me what's the problem?

I've tried vcdgear and it has found some errors but after that the new file still has the same problem. I can't use virtualdub or tmpgenc since the file can't be opened properly.

When I use vcdeasy to analyse, the error message is

    "[VCDxMInfo.exe]
    trying to open mpeg stream...
mpeg stream will be padded on the fly -- hope that's ok for you!
unknown user data tag id 0x05 encountered (not a problem, most likely caused by a specific

    MPEG encoder)
    pos != buflen (2321 != 2324)
mpeg scan: pack header code (0x000001ba) expected, but 0x15245693 found (buflen = 2324)
bad packet at packet #8488 (stream byte offset 17383773) -- remaining 744408743 bytes of

    stream will be ignored
pts start offset 0.533367 (max pts = 17.683833)
    playing time 17.150467
mpeg stream contained no scan information (user) data
autopadding requires to insert additional 2342339 zero bytes into MPEG stream (due to 8487

    unaligned packets of 8488 total)"

    Total size: 761,792,516 bytes

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks alot!

  2. have you try letting it play beyond the 12 min. mark???

sometimes media player misrepresents the time of the .mpg

if you have powerDVD or winDVD, try playing your .mpg in that and see if the .mpg is still shown to be 12 min...

There is no reason why an mpeg file of that duration should not be that size.
