I recently bought some Ritek Printable DVD-Rs.
In comparing them to my previous batch I noticed 3 things.
1. These are branded on the spool (yuck)
2. These have a smooth coating instead of rough.
3. These seem to have different numbers around the spool.
My questions are as follows:
1. On the printables, what is the difference between these coatings? Does anyone know? They seem to both work, though the smooth (new coating I got) has much less resolution and seems almost blurry. Not to mention the colors come out slightly different, but darker when you print on the disc surface. But they dry as quickly and the ink does not bead up... so they must be printables.
2. I have 2 numbers around the sppol of each of these discs. All different. Can anyone post codes for me that will tell me if these are 1X 2X or 4X? And how to figure it out? I saw these codes before, but I cant seem to find them now. Sorry if this is a redundant request.
I ordered 1X, but these do not have the same codes as my old 1X, they are branded, and have a different coating. Maybe I am paranoid, but I notice any change in my products... which always makes me nervous.
My biggest fear is that these are the 4X and were sent by mistake, or they are a different DVD-R and nobody told me. These are so different it is almost scarey... and of course Tech support at Rima is out and I can't reach them until Monday to ask...lol Just my luck.
Thanks Andy

Andy,
It sounds like you got accu's or something different. The Ritek white printables are not as you described them. How does the recording surface look like? I could tell you pretty quickly if you have pictures. All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....
and I don't break them for no one! -
I could send you a picture no problem. The recording surface is the same, same color etc. They say RiData on the spool, but the number in the center is much more faded than I am used to.
It is as follows:
H5-2L6F304286232C04
The other is:
DR5L16-00815

i checked the codes and they are the same .. -

I purchased a pack of Ritek Inkjet Printable media from SuperMediaStore.com. The surface is white and grainy. However when I print on them, they look OK, but they do not look as good as when I print on Gloss Labels. Is it possible to get them looking as good as Gloss Labels? I have tried different printer settings but if anyone could give me a recommendation it would be appreciated.
I also bought a pack of Samsung DigitALL Printable DVD-R media from SuperMediaStore. These feel much smoother than the Ritek that I purchased. When I print on them, the ink does NOT look good. I have tried different settings and saturation levels, but they all have about the same appearance. The ink does not actually bead up, but it dries as if it was beaded, and it looks like it has been smeared. Any small text printed on the disc is very blurry. From a distance, the discs look just like discs with Gloss labels, but under the light the spottiness of the way the ink dried is very noticeable. And again, the ink did not bead and take forever to dry as when printing on non-inkjet printable media.
I am also thinking of purchasing a different brand of media as I am unhappy with the printable surfaces of Samsung DigitALL and Ritek. I want a brand that is compatible with PS2. I have been looking for Taiyo Yuden inkjet printable DVD-R, because I have Taiyo Yuden inkjet printable CDRs and after being printed on, they look great.
Thanks for taking your time to read this. -
I forgot to mention, I am printing with EZ/CD Printer, the one that uses the Epson C60 engine. Would have better results with a different printer? such as the epson stylus photo 900? thanks

I had problem burning those with my DRU500A. It has problem going pass 4.xGB. -
The ones that I purchased came from SuperMediaStore and look different. They have a solid white surface which feels grainer then any other printable media that I have.
