I don't think TDK makes it themselves...

Odd. I'm under the impression that only TDK makes TDK discs, especially given the anger and lawsuits (or at least threats) that came out of the stolen TDK media ID codes.
I'm working with a few people to create a media list that shows brands, media manufacturers, media codes, and even the plants where they can come from.
There are not as many options as many would like to believe. But it sure does get confusing.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -

@ Lanevo, I believe those disks are "MAXELL"S" MEDIA ID. I can check my Maxell official disks which burned perfectly.
Now the Jewel case/spindle thing doesn't mean a lot..I don't believe..because my TDK disks back in December came in 10 pack shrink wrapped jewel cases, and all of them are TDK media id's..and all of them burned fine. But it looks like TDK may be following after Verbatim with saving a few pennies here and shaft us up "there." -
Yep, I know. I was somewhat surprised to see that it was Maxell when I bought it. But I didn't really care since Maxells perform just as well.

Ive just bought some from Tesco in the UK and they are from maxell as well.

if the surface is white, then the product is fake TDK, which means the product is made by Princo and whomever is selling it is using TDK as a free ride!!

bought 2 25 spindles at BB. Both were mfr code TDKG02. packaging says made in taiwan. Used about 26 of them already and had 2 'coasters' (1 most likely my fault, was trying to do some other work on the PC while burning - just not patient enough...).2nd coaster was trying to burn a ps2 game at 2x. There are no errors, but just takes forever for the game to load.

G'day all,
Just to warn you all that TDK DVD-R's that have the TDK manufacturing ID and are Made in Taiwan are NOT genuine TDK media. If you have TDK discs Made in Taiwan with the above ID, you most likely have counterfeit media, probably made by Princo. To "pakman", your coasters may be a result of counterfeit media. Genuine TDK-made DVD-R media come from the TDK factory in Japan.
Also, genuine TDK DVD-R media has a dark purple recording surface that looks reddish-purple when exposed to light. Princo-made discs have a light purple recording surface that looks pink when exposed to light.

no wonder bestbuy is selling them cheap...
these are actually dark purple. I know the princo pink you are talking about. anyways, only have 24 em left... (crossing my fingers...) -
I understand sometimes mixups happen with stolen codes and such, but its amazing that a national retail chain could have this problem with their distrobution channels. Either way the TDK that I purchased from target has been working great, I'll have to check out the color of the media when I get home.

On a side note I've not had a single problem with the 4 or so that I've burned so far, and every disc was filled up to the max.
